The Devil's Due *SPOILER ALERT*

The most recent scary movie i had the opportunity to see in theaters was the "The Devil's Due". I went with three of my friends for a girls night out. I have said before how the fiction/nonfiction debate is irrelevant to me but this movie was extremely far fetched and outrageously fake. The movie has a decent cast and set but the story line itself was very..... confusing. You weren't completely able to establish why everything was happening to these newlyweds until the movie was practically over. The ending was a good ending in my book but mostly because it wasn't as predictable as other movies are. There wasn't a happy ending, in fact both newly weds end up dead, their "baby" is taken by the people that ruined their lives in the first place and the very end shows the same people that ruined their lives about to ruin another set of newlyweds lives in a different honeymoon location ultimately leading me to believe there will be a sequel, oh joy (sarcasm intended).

Paranormal Activity

There has been much debate on whether or not the paranormal activity movies are real or fake, Personally i don't care. I don't need to have assurance of the authenticity of a movie. Movies can be both fiction and nonfiction and sometimes you just need to roll with it.I liked all of the paranormal activities, even the newest one, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. Yes i enjoyed watching the movie, but i didn't particularly enjoy the order in which the movies were named, released however you wanna say it.  The movies don't go in chronological order if they did they would actually go 3,2,1,4 and the new one doesn't follow the story line of the previous ones at all which is the most obvious reason of the title not being Paranormal Activity 5. Real or fake the confusion of the order takes away from the story line, yes its good to be left wondering but you shouldn't be completely clueless to the reasons behind the story line the WHY of the movie.

Everyone loves a happy ending.... *SPOILER ALERT*

Movies in general make a bad habit of having a happy ending. I disagree with the idea that everything has to have a happy ending. Life is not always happy and most endings cannot be considered so. Its unrealistic and its predictable. In "House At The End Of The Street" Alissa (Jennifer Lawrence) is saved from mentally unstable Ryan (Max Thieriot) who is institutionalized and Alissa and her mother move to a different house in a different city and BOOM! Happily ever after. There was absolutely no surprise that everything ended well for the protagonist and bad for the antagonist. If you really think about it some antagonists are loved more then their protagonists and deserve a better ending (Think Batman, Christian Bale, and the Joker, Heath Ledger.) I want to think about whats going to happen, i want to walk out of the theater and say "Wow, I really didn't expect that." Complete with a goofy smile on my face. In "Orphan" Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) is adopted and slowly but surely inserts herself into the hearts of her new family (sometimes through threats). The murder of her adoptive father (Peter Sarsgaard) was an unexpected twist as was Esther's untimely demise in the frozen lake behind her house. Yes, another happy ending but the writers didn't make this good always conquers evil so explicitly obvious by showing that not everybody good wins in the end (HELLO SHE MURDERED HER "FATHER"). Older movies like "Halloween" can to be argued to have less predictable outcomes. Frequent movie watchers like myself want to be surprised by the next big movie coming out but sometimes you have to look back at past movies and compare. You'll be amazed to find that some of your all time favorites will have been out for decades before you even catch a glimpse of the title.

The Others

In 2001 Nicole Kidman became a rather unsavory, mildly abusive mother in the film "The Others". I am  a big believer in having to think. Any movie that i am guaranteed to not guess the ending (which I do 95% of the times i watch movies, which is quite frequently) is a grade A movie in my book. This movie isn't good for the faint of heart, if you are jumpy, paranoid, or easily frightened i wouldn't suggest it. Personally this movie didn't frighten me at all. You might ask how i liked it so much if it didn't succeed in frightening me. I am not easily frightened and my fears are few and far between but this movie made me think. Yes i did predict the outcome of the movie but i did enjoy being set on edge. The hints throughout the movie ultimately lead to the ending but you have to open your eyes and really see whats right in front of you to piece the clues together.

Advancements=Improvements? Maybe not.

Looking back at scary movies from the past a lot has changed, technology has advanced, Special effects have improved, but with all these improvements i feel like there is something lacking. What is it might you ask? The music. 1975, a great white shark. You might not consider it scary but this thriller had a score of music to die for. Everyone remembers the song. Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum slow at first then rapidly gaining momenutm. A rather simple song that made a huge impact on this Steven Spielberg classic. Yes the graphics were horrible and the shark was utterly embarrassing but that music made up for it, it made this movie memorable. When this movie came out the box office hit $470,653, 00 which is excellent considering it cost about $9,000,000 to make the movie. This movie was extremely popular because the graphics (no matter how bad they are compared to what they are now) were really good for what they had been until this movie came out. It just goes to show that not everything has improved over the years in the movie industry

House At The End Of The Street

A boy, wounded by the loss of his parents, tormented by the people of his town, seemingly living alone in the big house his parents were brutally murdered by his own sister in. A girl, living with a single mom who works to much, easily fitting in with the popular crowd yet chooses to stand out, with the odd sense that she needs to "fix" people. These two make for a powerful pair of leading characters in the movie "House At The End Of The Street". This movie is full of suspense and surprise and the ending will leave you shocked sitting on the edge of your seat. If i have yet to pique your interest watch the trailer, maybe you'll change your mind.
